Board Meeting Recap – October 15, 2013

Hello All,

One of the things we often do to start a Board Meeting is to have an invocation.  On this particular evening, we had the opportunity to thank one of the regular invocaters, Pastor Dexter Ball from Faithwalk Harvest Center, who also chaplain for the Fire Department.  It was a nice gesture to a person who is very dedicated to improving the community we live in.  Check out the video link for the actual presentation.

The Board was then briefed on several staff reports regarding our ongoing OSLAD grant application, the Maple avenue construction project and Oktoberfest.

New business included authorization to move forward with participation in a Read more of this post

Board Meeting Recap – October 1, 2013

Hello All,

All too often, our Village Board meetings do not have any public comments.  I enjoy them, even when I might not agree with what a resident or stakeholder has to say.  This particular meeting had public comments from a resident who is having difficulties with a neighbor who appears to be sheltering numerous cats in their home.  The commenter asked the Board to review Village code regarding the number of Read more of this post

Board Meeting Recap – September 3, 2013

Hello All,

This was a relatively light agenda with two topics worth noting, the first being the painting of the Silverstone water tank.  It was suggested by staff that since this water tower is so close to Dundee-Crown High School (where I graduated from), it would be nice to include the Chargers logo on the tank.  Since this project came in under budget, the funds were available and the Board approved the additional work.  The tank painting has since been completed and staff has received many compliments on the additional ‘flair’ added to the tower.  While I was hesitant to spend the money, I think it looks great and conveys an added sense of community and Read more of this post

Board Meeting Recap – August 6, 2013

Hello Everyone,

One of the topics covered in this meeting included amending the code for businesses with liquor licenses so they have identical hours for both Friday and Saturday nights.

Another ordinance was amended to more easily allow for movies in the park at Carpenter Park.  It’s important to note that permits for this will be free.  Judging by the participation in the first Movie in the Park event, this will continue to be a fun (free) family night out.

New business included discussion on ways to help property owners improve their buildings.

Board Meeting Recap – July 16, 2013

Hello Everyone,

This was another relatively routine board meeting with only two items of new business: approval of some new home designs for the Winchester Glen development and acceptance of a bid to paint the Silverstone water tower.

The water tower painting is being done as preventative maintenance to avoid a much more costly repainting down the road (like the Randall Rd. tower).  While still expensive Read more of this post

Board Meeting Recap – July 9, 2013

Hello All,

This was a special village board meeting called outside the normal schedule of meetings, help primarily to address an issue in Executive Session.

The consent agenda approved the purchase of a couple new police Interceptor vehicles, which they use as frontline vehicles for patrol.  In the future, I would like to see Read more of this post

Board Meeting Recap – June 4, 2013

Hello All,

I’m disappointed to report that my prefect attendance was broken at this village board meeting.  I had a conflicting meeting for work in New York City that could not be avoided or changed to another date, so I was unable to attend.

Knowing I would be missing this meeting, I did email other village board members to lend my support to the ordinance amending village ordinance for home daycares.  We currently have a very well run home day care in the village that would like to slightly expand their business but were unable to because the ordinances were more restrictive than the state standard.  This change brings village ordinance in line with the state standards and allows this particular day care to better fill a need within the community. Board Meeting Recap – May 7th, 2013

Hello All,

I’m in the process of getting my website up to speed since we have numerous things coming up and wanted to start by posting the links to village board meetings.

Highlights of this board meeting, for me at least, was me taking the oath of office for my first elected term.

We also discussed the Read more of this post

Board Meeting Recap – March 20, 2013

Hello All,

With the lion’s share of staff time being devoted to finalizing next fiscal year’s budget, we had another light agenda for the board meeting.  I expect the agendas to start picking up again at the next meeting (April 2nd) when the FY 2014 budget will be discussed and voted on.

No new business was introduced this time, however we did have some interesting items on the consent agenda.  First was a final ordinance Read more of this post

Board Meeting Recap – March 5, 2013

Hello All,

With upwards of 10″s of snow, the weather did not cooperate with the most recent village board meeting.  As a result, our only presentation on the agenda, by the mountain biking group CAMBr, was postponed.  Mike Angus was slated to give us an update on the Raceway Woods mountain bike trail enhancement, which his group has developed as a 100% volunteer project.

Besides that, we had some great news coming from the consent agenda.  The new owners of the Read more of this post
